A lot of my textile and mixed media art seems to be about journeys. This wallhanging is no exception.
As I worked, the layout evolved into an abstract interpretation of a map, with hints of dead-end streets, paths, city blocks and open spaces. I then added simple hand stitching with various cotton threads.
The background is an eco dyed/printed cheesecloth remnant; appliquéd onto this are scraps of eco dyed wool, cotton and silk, left over from other projects.
Raw edges compliment the rustic design, natural colours and tactile elements.
Features metal washers and squashed bottle caps (found on the road), and also a rod pocket on the back for easy hanging (rod not included).
Size: 33 cm x 54 cm (13 in x 21.5 in)
