The word 'torn' has many connotations - torn fabric, torn from family, torn apart emotionally, torn apart character, torn between choices. This collection represents all of the above, especially in relation to the convict women who came to Tasmania. Yet they were able to establish families, businesses and so much more, leaving a lasting legacy. I particularly wanted to acknowledge and honour Sophia Gunyon (nee Robinson) and Amelia Harris (nee Laing).
