A lot of my textile and mixed media art seems to be about journeys and this wallhanging is no exception. As I worked, the layout evolved into an abstract interpretation of a map, with hints of dead-end streets, paths, city blocks and open spaces. It is often difficult to know the way ahead, and sometimes we have to be inventive as we try to move forward. If one way doesn't work, we try another way. Sometimes we need help and support to navigate; sometimes we have to retrace our steps before we can make headway. Occasionally we enter into a peaceful and open 'space', where we can rest, take stock and renew. Life is a journey into unknown territory, no matter who much we try to plan and prepare.
Eco dyed/printed fabrics, including cheesecloth, wool, cotton and silk; all upcycled and/or vintage. Hand stitched with various cotton threads; raw edged applique. Also features metal washers and squashed bottle caps (found on the road).
I have attached a rod pocket to the back for easy hanging (rod not included).
