‘Symbiosis’ expresses the mutual relationship between me and my materials resulting in the art that emerges from our interaction through stitch. It also connects me to my environment as I use plant dyeing and rusting to transform items mostly destined for landfill. Here I’ve used vintage fabric, an old tray cloth and used teabag paper, with the addition of art paper. I also made the cord from the yarn that I used to tie the bundles of fabric for dyeing.
Machine stitched with very fine machine embroidery thread which I’ve left untrimmed to symbolise roots and growth.
I have attached a rod pocket to the back for easy hanging (rod not included).
